Evan recorded many fine performances winning provincial titles over 3,000m steeplechase, cross country, 10,000m track and road championships.
He was national 10,000m champion and 2nd placed in NZ Cross Country Championship.
He was 2nd in Australian 10,000m championship and his 28:15 for 10,000m in Auckland, New Zealand was a national record and also the 4th fastest in world history in 1968.
